Morocco Studies Bid to Host 2028 Africa Cup of Nations Amid Strong Competition
Monday 29-12-2025
Press reports indicated today, Monday, that Morocco is seriously considering submitting an official bid to host the upcoming 2028 Africa Cup of Nations, following the remarkable organizational success of the current edition.

The website "Africa Soccer" mentioned that Morocco, the host of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, is considering submitting a new bid to host the 2028 edition, supported by the widespread praise the current tournament's organization has received from both the participating teams and the fans.

The Hassan II Stadium project in Casablanca represents one of the strongest points in Morocco's potential bid, as it is expected to have a capacity of around 115,000 spectators upon completion in 2028, making it the largest football stadium in the world. This could give Morocco a clear advantage in the hosting race.

On the other hand, reports anticipate strong competition from several prominent countries, foremost among them Egypt, Algeria, and South Africa. Egypt is considered one of the leading nations on the continent in hosting major tournaments, while the African Football Confederation's (CAF) policy of geographic rotation may play a decisive role in the final decision.

The website pointed out that the CAF will determine the details and official procedures for the bid after the conclusion of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, with a comprehensive evaluation of Morocco's performance as the host of the current edition, before opening the competition for hosting the 2028 tournament.
