Two Young Bundesliga Defenders on Barcelona's Radar to Strengthen Defense
Saturday 27-12-2025
Barcelona places the center-back position at the top of its priorities in the upcoming period, whether in the current winter transfer market or during the summer, amid the sudden absence of Christensen and the situation of Ronald Araújo. According to the Spanish newspaper "Sport," the Catalan club is closely monitoring the Bundesliga market in search of a young defender who represents an investment for the future.

According to "Sport," Barcelona's sporting management has identified two prominent names in the German league: the Greek Konstantinos Koulierakis, Wolfsburg's defender, and the Croatian Luka Vuskovic, Hamburg's player loaned from Tottenham. Although the club wishes to take practical steps forward, financial constraints and the salary cap make completing any deal in January extremely difficult.

Koulierakis, 22 years old, is delivering strong performances with Wolfsburg, characterized by his left foot and quality ball distribution, along with speed and the ability to lead the back line. Wolfsburg signed him from PAOK for around 12 million euros in 2024, and he later became one of the most prominent center-backs in the Bundesliga, with clear interest from Liverpool, although his departure seems postponed until the summer, according to the same source.

As for Luka Vuskovic, Tottenham signed him last January from Hajduk Split for 12 million euros when he was only 18 years old, before loaning him to Hamburg. There, his level exploded noticeably, raising his market value to about 40 million euros within a few months. The player is known for his strength and versatility in defensive roles and does not wish to return to Tottenham, which leaves his situation open, as noted by "Sport."

The Spanish newspaper reports that Vuskovic's connection with his agent Pini Zahavi, who has a strong relationship with Barcelona president Joan Laporta, helped put his name recently inside the club's circles. Nevertheless, both deals remain almost impossible in January, despite Barcelona's preference to sign a young center-back with future potential instead of resorting to loaning an experienced player. The situation is expected to become clearer in the coming months.
