Liverpool Targets Signing Celta Vigo Defender
Wednesday 24-12-2025
Liverpool FC is looking to strengthen the depth of its defensive line by signing Spanish defender Óscar Mingueza, currently playing for Celta Vigo, in the upcoming period, according to a report published by the website "Fútbol España."

The report indicated that Mendez's contract expires at the end of the current season, and it is not expected that he will renew his contract with Celta Vigo, which opens the door for his departure on a free transfer. Liverpool hopes to reach a preliminary agreement with the player in preparation for signing him for free at the end of the season.

Mingueza is considered one of the players who have delivered consistent performances in La Liga, and he possesses the potential to succeed in the English Premier League. Liverpool had shown interest in him earlier, and Newcastle United also attempted to sign him during the last winter transfer window.

On the other hand, the potential departure of Mingueza would be a blow to FC Barcelona, which had hoped to benefit financially from his transfer, having included a clause granting them 50% of the resale value when the player moved to Celta Vigo in 2022.

Liverpool's interest comes amid their need to strengthen the right-back position, as the club has so far been unable to fully replace Alexander-Arnold. Jeremy Frimpong has also struggled with recurring injuries, while Conor Bradley has delivered acceptable performances but has not yet become a consistent first-choice option.

Mingueza has scored one goal and provided three assists this season, making him a valuable option to strengthen competition within the team, as negotiations continue to unfold in the coming period.
