Manchester City's response came in the 36th minute, when Gvardiol met a corner kick with a header that caused Courtois to fumble, allowing Oreilly to easily follow up and score into the net.
One minute before the end of the first half, the referee awarded a penalty to Erling Haaland after reviewing the video assistant referee (VAR). The Norwegian striker successfully converted the penalty, scoring Manchester City's second goal.
