Bale: The Spanish Press Destroyed Me, and These Are the Reasons for My Retirement

Former Real Madrid star Gareth Bale spoke in a press interview, during which he discussed his time with the Royal Club, including his relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlo Ancelotti. He also revealed the reason behind his early retirement from football.

Bale said in his speech: "The Wales banner, golf, Madrid with the national team? The Spanish press destroyed me. I didn’t even touch that banner, I used to play golf once every two or three weeks, and only on rest days, I never played for eight hours straight. I have always done that very professionally. But people don’t know, so they make things up."

He added: "Carlo Ancelotti? He has been amazing. For me, his genius lies in managing players; he always keeps you happy. You learn a lot from managers and from him as a person. He teaches you a lot simply through his calmness in different situations. When you feel angry, he keeps everyone calm, and that’s why he is such a great manager."

He continued about his relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo at the time: "There was no problem, argument, or fight between me and Cristiano Ronaldo. There was absolutely nothing between us. The media might say otherwise, but I was on good terms with everyone."

And about his favorite goal: "Of course, the bicycle kick against Liverpool in the Champions League final."

Regarding how he deals with criticism: "I used to handle all of that with a smile and laughter. This is my way of coping. If things aren't going well, I keep playing well and enjoying myself."

Bale revealed that his early retirement at the age of 33 was due to injuries, the lack of appreciation from Real Madrid fans despite giving them unforgettable moments, and being affected by his father's illness. He affirmed, "I quickly realized that there are things in life more important than just football."
