Gnabry: Competition within the team makes me stronger, and we trust in our ability to secure qualification
Serge Gnabry, the star of Bayern Munich, confirmed the team's high readiness ahead of their match against Sporting Lisbon in the sixth round of the UEFA Champions League group stage, noting that the team is in a strong morale before the crucial encounter.
The German star's statements came during the press conference held this evening, in which he shared his perspective on the match, the team's condition, and the progress of his physical fitness, as well as discussing the competition within the team and his future with the club.
Regarding the competition within the team, Gnabry said: "There has always been a rotation process, and it will continue as long as we play this many matches. Currently, things are going well even with the rotation, although the situation was different at times. It is very important that everyone stays in playing rhythm. Our squad isn't very large, so it's essential that everyone remains ready."
Regarding the team atmosphere, he added: "Everyone is in good shape, the mood is excellent, and morale is high. We fully understand what is at stake in tomorrow's match."
Regarding the current tournament format, he continued: "The system doesn't give you many opportunities, and we learned this last season. The format doesn't allow you to make many mistakes. In the Champions League, anything can happen, as we saw last year. The Portuguese play strong football, so it will be a tough match."
Regarding the renewal of his contract, he said: "The situation is calm, there are talks, and we will see what they lead to. So far, everything is going well."
Regarding Alphonso Davies' return, he added: "Alphonso is completely calm. He has been out for a long time, and that always takes time. Things are improving week by week, and he will return soon as long as he doesn't experience any setbacks."
Regarding the internal competition upon Musiala's return, he continued: "Competition is always there regardless of who is on the roster. Even when Jamal Musiala comes back, not much will change. As long as I perform well and stay ready, I won't worry about anything."
Regarding qualification to the Round of 16, he said: "Our goal tomorrow is to secure three points. It would be great to confirm direct qualification, and tomorrow we can take a big step towards that. Then we will have some rest during the preliminary knockout rounds. We have been having a strong season in the Champions League so far."
Regarding his role in the team at the age of 30, he added: "I have become more vocal and more active in leadership; other than that, not much has changed in my role within the team."
Regarding Sporting Lisbon, he continued: "Sporting is a very strong team and has achieved many victories. They have many skilled players and good forwards. It will be a tough and enjoyable match at the same time."
Regarding his physical condition, Gnabry concluded his statements by saying: "I feel very good. Last week, I was feeling a bit off before the Union Berlin match, so I took some rest. Now, I feel fit and refreshed again."
