Alonso: The referee's decisions made us lose focus, but we are on the right track

Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso appeared at a press conference following the 2-0 loss to Celta Vigo in the fifteenth round of La Liga, in the match held at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

The coach said in his statement: "We are all angry; this was not the match we wanted nor the result we were aiming for. From the start, Militão's injury affected us, making it difficult to reorganize the team. We tried to adjust some things, but the game did not go as planned. We need to turn the page quickly. It's just three points, and the league is still long. On Wednesday, we have the Champions League, and we will try to respond and get rid of this bad feeling."

He added: "Was the intensity missing today? It wasn't what we expected. We planned the match to play at a good pace and press against a strong opponent, but we lacked certain things. Militão's injury affected our plan a lot. It's bad news; we are struggling with injuries, and this is a new one added to the list. We had difficulty reacting, and only improved when we played with 10 men. We are angry, and now we have to show a different face on Wednesday. Everyone bears responsibility in both good and bad moments. We must handle this responsibly. We shouldn't look too far ahead; the situation is tough because of the injuries, and we will continue to make adjustments."

He continued: "Do you feel that you have the strength to lead the team out of this situation? We are all united, and we know this is the world of football. We must look ahead. We understand the pressure, and defeats are very painful, but we have to move forward. The responsibility is shared by everyone, and everyone must work to improve things. We know the points we lose are important, but they are not decisive."

He continued: "Do you consider the match against City to be decisive for your future? We are playing for three points in the Champions League. We are in a good position in the Champions League, and that is what we are focusing on. We want to perform better than we did today, without a doubt."

He emphasized: "The referee's decisions made us lose focus. He did not take into account time-wasting and was interrupting the flow of the game, and he was very lenient. Carreras' card? I don't know... a very debatable decision. I didn't like the refereeing at all, and that affected us and took us out of the match at those moments."

He explained, "We are only thinking about the upcoming match on Wednesday. It's true that the situation is painful right now, but we have to look ahead, with all the commitment and pride that this club demands. This is our short-term goal."

Regarding Franco Mastantuono's absence: "He is regaining his fitness after suffering from groin pain and needs more training. He is improving and currently available. These are technical decisions for now."

On the difficulty of breaking down teams that defend deep: "We need to find solutions. We will face this type of match often. We must prepare for them and create more chances. When we played with 10 men, we created more opportunities. It’s about searching and working hard. The team wants to compete and build a strong foundation. We are on the right track."

He concluded: "We play every match for three points. The next match is important and exciting. We work hard in Valdebebas, and that is what we need to focus on. Yes, we lost three points, and we understand the fans' pain. We wanted to be in a better position, but the road is still long. This is football, and things are always like this."
