Nashat Akram Lists Three Valuable Gains After Iraq's Victory Over Sudan
Sunday 07-12-2025
Former Iraqi star Nashat Akram revealed three valuable gains the Iraqi national team achieved after playing two matches against Bahrain and Sudan in the 2025 Arab Cup in Qatar.

The Iraqi team defeated their Sudanese counterpart yesterday with a 2-0 score in the second round, with Iraq's two goals scored by Mohannad Ali "Mimi" and Amjad Atwan in the 81st and 84th minutes.

Nashat Akram said in media statements: "The Iraqi team showed a great level and very good performance in their match against Sudan, and honestly this performance made me very happy because it reflects the true level of the Iraqi team after a period of fluctuating results and performance. Therefore, we hope to always see the team at this level."

He added: "Iraq has achieved many gains in the tournament so far, and the first gain is regaining confidence, because the players found fairness in the team and found someone who trusts them, which is the coach Graham Arnold who gave everyone a chance, even the substitutes who showed today their great levels."

He explained: "The second gain is strengthening the bench. With the great levels that the current players are presenting, they will form an important and significant addition to the professional players in other European leagues, because coach Arnold will not dispense with the services of the current players and what they have offered during the two matches."

He continued: "The third gain is the Iraqi team's central defense, as Iraq now has an outstanding defender named Maitham Jabbar. The duo he forms with Akam Hashim was wonderful, especially since the latter offered his best levels and maintained a steady performance despite all the physical challenges he faced with the Sudanese attackers."

Akram concluded his talk: "The Arab Cup once again confirmed that the Iraqi national team is full of talents and good players. These talents existed before but did not get enough opportunities because the problem in Iraq is the opportunity, and I am confident that the talents who get the chance will excel later."
