Iraqi Players Set Their Goal in the Match Against Algeria
After the Iraqi national team officially secured qualification to the quarter-finals of the 2025 Arab Cup Qatar, attention immediately turned to the upcoming match against the Algerian team, at the conclusion of Group Four matches on Tuesday.
Defender Ahmed Hassan Mkenzi said: "The victory over Sudan was extremely important. Honestly, the Sudanese team was organized on the field and made the match difficult for us. We faced significant physical fatigue during preparation, but we had to secure the points by any means possible."
He added: "Now the thinking about the Sudan match is over, and all focus is on the match against Algeria on Tuesday. Our goal is clear: we want to win to strengthen our lead in the group, especially since the top spot gives us a better path in the upcoming rounds."
As for the scorer of the second goal, Amjad Atwan, he said: "We congratulate the fans, the technical staff, and the players on this important win. Today we performed well, and thank God I scored the goal. Effort is what determines a player's fate, and that is why this victory was important for us."
Atwan continued: "We have been living with pressure since the day we were born, and this is part of football. We ask the fans to support the badge and the coach's choices. I hope criticism is postponed until after the tournament. Right now, we need them with us more than ever."
Player Ahmed Yahya explained: "The match against Sudan was very important, and the preparation was excellent despite the pressure of the matches. The tournament is tight, and the days between matches are very few, but we are dealing with the situation in the best way."
Yahya added: "The match against Algeria remains very valuable despite having secured qualification. Achieving a win gives us confidence and moral boost for the next stage, especially since we will face a big and experienced team."
Meanwhile, Mustafa Saadoun said: "Thank God we achieved the most important thing and qualified for the next round, which reflects the work of the entire system. We will play the match against Algeria with the goal of winning, which is important for us at this stage."
He continued: "Honestly, the team is suffering from physical fatigue, but the medical staff is working intensively with us. We were mentally present against Sudan, and that helped us secure the win against a strong and distinguished team."
