Manchester United Monitors Sporting Lisbon Defender
Friday 05-12-2025
Manchester United has set its sights on young Ivorian defender Ousmane Diamonde, a player for Sporting Lisbon, after the player failed to reach an agreement on renewing his contract, according to the website "CaughtOffside."

The site praised Diamonde's performance, especially under the current Red Devils manager, Ruben Amorim, when he was coach of Sporting Lisbon. With the player's contract nearing its end in the summer of 2026, Diamonde has become a potential target for many clubs, including Newcastle and Crystal Palace.

The same source mentioned that Manchester United will have the opportunity to sign the player on a free transfer, which could be a smart move to strengthen the defense, especially with Harry Maguire aging and the team sometimes relying on Luke Shaw and Noussair Mazraoui as alternatives in the center-back position, in addition to Lisandro Martinez suffering from frequent injuries.

The site pointed out that Diamonde's relationship with Amorim might be an important factor in convincing him to move to Old Trafford, as well as the appeal of the Manchester United name as a major club offering a chance to shine at the European level.

The Diamonde deal remains an important opportunity for Manchester United to bolster their defense and cover the shortage in central defense ahead of the crucial upcoming stages.
