Enrique: We played our worst match this season, and Chevalier was lucky
Sunday 30-11-2025
Spanish coach Luis Enrique spoke after his team's unexpected loss to Monaco (0-1) on Saturday, confirming that the defeat was not due to refereeing errors, although he implicitly referred to the match referee Clément Turpin.

He began his comments regarding Monaco player Kamara's tackle on Chevalier's foot without receiving a red card: "What I can say is that Lucas Chevalier was very lucky today. You should ask the person who decided not to review the incident, I would like to talk a lot about it, but I will just say he was lucky today, and that is enough. You have to read between the lines."

He added: "The match needs to be watched again to analyze what we did. It was a game full of inaccuracies... neither team played at a high level. They played better than us, and the start was difficult for us. It is hard to maintain consistency when you make individual mistakes."

He concluded: "This was our worst match this season. It would be easy to say the team was tired, but you have to strive to deliver your best performance every day. It was not easy for us, nor was it easy for Monaco, but they deserved it more than us. It was a very bad night for us."
