Alonso: This is What We Need, and We Want to Stay at the Top
Sunday 30-11-2025
Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso appeared at a press conference to discuss tomorrow's match against Girona in the 14th round of the Spanish league, to be held at the Montilivi Stadium.

The coach said: "After the last Champions League match in Athens, we know that this is a game where we need to feel the victory away from home. It's unusual to play such a large number of consecutive away matches. We have played both Champions League and La Liga matches at the same time, but tomorrow we need to win to continue earning the three points if we want to stay at the top. That is our goal. The team is performing well, and our players have returned."

He added: "We need consistency in performance. We lack a cohesive performance where we feel in control and maintain this level of play, especially defensively; our performance has improved. I'm not completely satisfied with certain aspects, such as the goals we conceded, but we will deliver a better performance. We are improving with the ball; this is the way forward."

Regarding the lineup: "The approach and idea have always been the same. We will make adjustments to improve them. We want to continue with the initiative and enthusiasm to regain possession, and we also want to maintain our conviction about how to do that."

Regarding the team's condition: "Rüdiger and Militão have returned. We will wait until tomorrow to know Asensio's status. Hausen is still absent; we are waiting. Matanotono is also ready and will be with us. He is in better condition, training without any discomfort or pain, and training at a certain pace."

Regarding Laporta's statements: "There are populist messages from all sides that resonate with their fans. We are focused on our match; what matters is what happens on the field, winning with sportsmanship and merit. Every match is a test of that, and we must prove it."

About Jude Bellingham: "Jude has a strong desire to learn and to be more effective. Players who have this spirit and belong to a different category... we need to understand what it's all about."

He continued about Trent Alexander-Arnold: "We need Arnold. It's his first season, and this adjustment period is natural. He is also a demanding person, and we have to support him through this big change."

Regarding Mendy's performance against Olympiacos: "I was impressed with what he showed against Olympiacos. It was the first match we played with him. We didn't know his competitive level, and he delivered an outstanding performance. He is an excellent defender and gives us great confidence in defense. Having that feeling back is wonderful news."

He added regarding Vinicius and Mbappé's brilliance against Olympiacos: "They are very skilled at exploiting spaces when we play with a deep defense, and they have done so in other matches as well. Their connection, quality, and harmony are evident on the field; it was unfortunate that Viní couldn't score."

He concluded regarding the players' statements about the bond among teammates in the locker room: "I have always felt that the team is united, and that we all share the same goal: to reach the end with a chance to win everything. We are together through thick and thin, and we have a good relationship every day. Despite all the rumors and what some may say, we are internally cohesive."
