Al-Zawraa Overcomes Indian Goa with a Double in AFC Champions League 2
Al-Zawraa Stadium in the capital Baghdad witnessed an exciting match this evening between Al-Zawraa Club and its guest Indian Goa as part of the fifth round of the AFC Champions League 2, which ended with Al-Zawraa winning 2-1.
The match started with a clear advantage for Al-Zawraa in terms of ball possession and building attacks, with continuous pressure on the Indian team's goal.
Al-Zawraa managed to impose its control until it earned a penalty kick in the 36th minute, following the dismissal of Goa player Ayush Dev after receiving a second yellow card due to the foul that led to the penalty.
However, Al-Zawraa's striker Ibrahim Tomiwa failed to convert the penalty into a goal, giving the Indian team a chance to stay in the match.
A few minutes later, Al-Zawraa succeeded in opening the score through Kazem Raad in the 38th minute, ending the first half with the home team leading by a clean goal, with a clear relative control over the course of the game.
At the start of the second half, Al-Zawraa continued its pressure, especially after the Indian team’s player was sent off, which gave the Iraqi team more space to control the midfield.
But the surprise came in the 51st minute when Goa scored the equalizer from a free kick, caused by an own goal from Al-Zawraa defender Durgham Ismail.
The Iraqi team did not calm down and returned to intense pressure on the opponent's goal, until Hassan Abdulkarim managed to score the second goal in the 65th minute, giving Al-Zawraa the lead again.
With this victory, Al-Zawraa raised its points to 9 in second place within Group 4, getting very close to securing qualification to the next round.
