Conte: Happy with the Victory, and My Relationship with the Players is Strong
Antonio Conte, the head coach of Napoli, explained how he made the tactical decisions that led his team to a 3-1 victory over Atalanta, emphasizing that his honesty with the players was an important factor in restoring balance within the team.
Napoli said: "We are satisfied with the win and the way we achieved the result. We played a strong first half with a high tempo and maintained the same pressure after the break. It is natural for a team losing 3-0 to push forward aggressively."
He continued: "We could have controlled the ball better in the second half, but it's good in the end because we won against a strong team like Atalanta. I studied their performance against Marseille, and they played a great match in a challenging atmosphere that I know well. Today, the team had a lot of energy."
Regarding the reaction of Napoli players after the loss to Bologna, Conte explained: "Perhaps those outside the team worry more than I do. My relationship with the players is very strong; I am transparent and don't wear masks. I am always honest with them. I know some don't like that, but I have always learned that honesty is essential."
He added, "It is the right of the media to speak, while we must continue working."
Conte pointed out that his tactical adjustment, shifting to a formation closer to 3-4-2-1 instead of 3-4-3, was due to the injury crisis affecting the team.
He explained: "The last blow was the injury to Franck Anguissa, which made me reassess the midfield situation. The options are very limited; Elmas is not a midfielder, but he is performing the role well. The available players we have are Lobotka, Scott, and a young player, Vergara, who is essentially more of a playmaker."
Regarding the upcoming Champions League match against Qarabag next Tuesday, which precedes a major league clash against Roma, Conte concluded his remarks by saying: "Qarabag has been the surprise of the Champions League so far this season. We need to fully recharge and prepare well for this new challenge."
