Maresca: The team is better with Palmer, but we are ready to face Burnley
Sunday 23-11-2025
Chelsea's head coach, Enzo Maresca, spoke to the media this morning ahead of his team's upcoming Premier League match against Burnley. He highlighted the team's readiness and preparations following the international break, confirming that some players will return after a short absence, while Cole Palmer remains unavailable due to a minor injury.

Regarding Cole Palmer, Maresca said: "He definitely won't be available tomorrow, definitely not against Barcelona, and definitely not against Arsenal. Unfortunately, he had a household accident two days ago and injured his finger. It's not serious, but he won't be ready next week either. We don't know exactly how long he'll be out; all we know is that he is unavailable this week and next week."

Regarding Axel Disasi: "I have said several times that Axel and Raheem Sterling are Chelsea players. Axel helps the second team and the youth players. During the international break, we had only five or six players with us, so we needed some players from the second team. Axel participated with us in only one session. Currently, he is helping the second team and working with them."

About Raheem Sterling: "Raheem is also a player at Chelsea and is in the same situation."

Regarding Philip Jørgensen: "I spoke with Philip at the beginning of the season, and I haven’t recently discussed any transfer with him. All players who don’t get much playing time want more minutes on the field, which is natural, but I haven’t talked with Philip about it."

Regarding Estêvão: "He returned from the national team, and he is very happy, and we are happy with him as well."

About Malou Gusto: "We have said several times that Gusto is a key player for the way we want to play. He can play in multiple positions, and we like players we can rely on dynamically, and Gusto is one of those players."

And about the midfield against Burnley: "It will be a different match; every game is different from the other. Perhaps tomorrow we will need different strategies. There is no doubt it will be a tough match, especially after the international break at noon. We need to stay focused."

Regarding the improvement in pressing after losing the ball: "Perhaps the time we spend together helps us improve. Sometimes pressing is possible, and sometimes it’s not, but we are definitely getting better and can become even better."

Regarding Cole Palmer and England: "For me, Cole is one of our best players, and there is no doubt that he can play for any international team, but the final decision rests with Thomas."

Regarding other injuries in the team: "Caicedo returned tonight, and we will see him soon. It's good that Badischelli is back and may be available tomorrow. Enzo Fernandez and Pedro Neto took advantage of the international break to regain some energy and recover from their injuries, and they are also available for the match."

Regarding Cole Palmer's impact on the team: "Of course, the team is better with Cole Palmer on the field. I feel a significant improvement when he's playing, and everyone wants him to be there. At the same time, when he's not available, we need to find solutions. The team performs great, but we're better with Palmer."
