Official: Hakimi Crowned Best African Player of 2025
Moroccan right-back Achraf Hakimi of Paris Saint-Germain was crowned the Best African Player of 2025 for the first time in his career during the Best in Africa Awards ceremony held on Wednesday in the Moroccan capital, Rabat.
Hakimi won the award, surpassing both Egyptian Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and Nigerian Galatasaray player Victor Osimhen, who were absent from the ceremony.
With this achievement, Hakimi became the first Moroccan player to win the award since Mustapha Hadji in 1998, and he also became the first defender to win it since the award was introduced in its current format.
Achraf Hakimi had an exceptional season with Paris Saint-Germain, winning the domestic treble in France, as well as the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup.
He also contributed to leading the Moroccan national team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
During last season, Hakimi scored 11 goals and provided 16 assists in 55 matches with the Parisian club. This season, he has played in 14 matches, scoring 2 goals and delivering 3 assists.
