Concern in Barcelona Over Left Flank Vulnerabilities
Friday 14-11-2025
The Spanish newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo' revealed concerns within FC Barcelona due to the weak defensive performance on the left flank during the team's match against Club Brugge, which ended in a 3-3 draw in the UEFA Champions League.

The newspaper clarified that in the match, the team failed to implement the high defensive line strategy adopted by German coach Hans Flick, noting that poor positioning and lack of organization allowed the Belgian team to create numerous opportunities. Flick stated before the match against Celta Vigo: "In Brugge, we lacked the fighting spirit, and I hope to see it against Celta Vigo."

The newspaper added that the first goal Barcelona conceded against Club Brugge highlighted the struggles of left-back Alejandro Balde against Carlos Forbs, as he left too much space that allowed Forbs to evade marking and deliver the decisive pass to his teammate Nicolo Tresoldi, alongside the lack of defensive support from Marcus Rashford, who did not exert the necessary effort in pressing and tracking back.

The report also indicated that the absence of Raphinha over the past month and a half has clearly affected the team's balance, not only due to his 34 goals last season but also because of his significant effort in pressing and his important role in supporting the left flank.

The report emphasized that Barcelona needs significant improvements to address the vulnerabilities on the left flank before the upcoming stages of the season.
