Valverde: I am suffering from an injury, and we received a painful blow

Real Madrid star Fede Valverde spoke in press statements after the 1-0 loss against Liverpool in the fourth round of the UEFA Champions League at Anfield.

The player said in his remarks: "We came here to try to win and take the three points. We know it’s a very difficult ground; they press hard. I think we had chances. In the end, we lost because of a set piece that we should have dealt with much better."

He added by saying: "They took three consecutive set pieces with their heads. We knew they were strong in set pieces, and we had to be stronger than them and defend better, with more desire and fighting spirit."

He continued: "We controlled the first half more. Both teams had chances to score, but we felt comfortable with the ball. We needed to fill the penalty area more when attacking. Sometimes we over-defended because they are very quick on the counter-attacks."

He emphasized: "We wanted to win. Winning here is always great, as we did before, it’s unique. Today we had to lose; we want to thank the fans who attended in this weather. We will continue to improve. It’s a painful blow for us because we had a series of good matches. But the most important thing is to move forward, as we did after the Atletico match, and stay strong."

He concluded his remarks about his injury: "I don’t know if it’s a muscle strain or something else I did and got injured. We will see..."
