Enrique: We Must Wait Until the End of the Season to Know Who is Better, and This is the Case with Dembélé
Monday 03-11-2025
Luis Enrique, the coach of Paris Saint-Germain, appeared at a press conference on the eve of the anticipated match against Bayern Munich tomorrow, Tuesday, at the Parc des Princes in the fourth round of the UEFA Champions League.

He started his talk: "Will this match determine who is the best team in Europe right now? To know that, we must wait until the end of the season to see how many titles each team will win and their quality. For now, it is clear that Bayern is a very strong team, having won 15 consecutive matches, and we realize how difficult this match will be. But we are ready and motivated to win this game."

The Paris coach added, speaking about the previous encounter between the two teams in the Club World Cup that ended with Paris Saint-Germain's victory: "That match was very competitive, and I think we will witness similar moments tomorrow. The same principles will apply in the style of play. It will be an exciting and motivating match for both teams."

Regarding Bayern Munich's recent development: "If we talk about their results in the last 15 matches, it is amazing. Sometimes we find it difficult to win three or four consecutive times, let alone fifteen! Bayern certainly deserves praise, but if we talk about tomorrow's match, at our home, among our fans, and in this atmosphere, we have enough confidence to perform better and deal with their high pressure."

On the participation of Ousmane Dembélé: "I never take risks with any player. Ousmane is in good physical condition; he has participated in all training sessions over the past two weeks and played in the last two matches, improving his physical level. He will participate tomorrow, but we will decide tomorrow how long he will play."

About how to defend against Bayern, who score an average of three goals per match: "That does not change our defensive behavior. If we look at the Champions League numbers, we will find that they have scored one goal less than us. (smiling) Perhaps you should ask them how they will deal with the team that has scored more than them. I'm joking, of course."

He continued: "Is this match a way to evaluate your team? Do you think we need evaluation? I don’t think so. We deserve some confidence. Winning tomorrow is extremely important, not just for the three points, but because we have the toughest schedule in the Champions League. We want to be competitors, regardless of the opponent, the stadium, or the tournament; it is important to enjoy this moment and this atmosphere."

He added: "Based on our analysis of Bayern's last match, I expect a balanced encounter. Bayern will not change their style of play, nor will we, but we will try to impose our style more. We must try to control them, and it is clear that effectiveness in critical areas will be the key to victory; both teams always play at maximum speed, so we will only see beautiful football; it will certainly be a wonderful match."

On how the team can be unpredictable despite knowing the team's style of play: "We must always change. Our goal is one, but we try to reach it in different ways. The small details are what make the difference. These are the requirements that have accompanied us for several seasons. I am confident that we can develop further, which is necessary, and I am happy with how we are progressing towards our goals."

Regarding the development of Senny Mayulu, the eighth most used player with the team in the Champions League: "He is a very important player for us, thanks to his technical and physical quality, as well as his personality and ability to play in different positions, which gives me, as a coach, great flexibility. I am very happy with what Senny Mayulu is offering, as well as Warren Zaïre-Emery and the rest of the academy players."

He concluded: "Can the character the team showed against Nice (1-0) help you face Bayern? We must appreciate what we have done, but we will strive to improve two key aspects: creating chances and high pressing. The team that shows superiority in these two phases will be closer to controlling the match."
