Spalletti: Pressures Affect Some Players, and the Match Against Cremonese Was an Important Test
Sunday 02-11-2025
The new head coach of Juventus, Luciano Spalletti, expressed his satisfaction with his team's performance after a tough 2-1 victory over Cremonese in his first match with the team, affirming that the players still need development and that pressures may affect some of them at this stage.

Spalletti said: "After just two minutes, everyone knew Cremonese's position on the field. I expected them to position themselves in a way that could cause more damage, as we were unable to transfer the ball from right to left sufficiently."

He added: "The intention was for Thuram to push forward a bit, and for Cremonese to enter those spaces to give us an extra man in midfield, as the real danger from Cremonese was Vardy."

He continued: "I saw good performance in terms of communication and focus, and Cremonese was more defensive in organizing and calling the line during counterattacks, which was necessary because Cremonese poses a significant threat with long balls to Vardy, as we saw in the goal he scored."

Regarding the team's decline after taking the lead, Spalletti commented: "We started to allow them to advance at the end of the first half and then after the break, so there are areas we need to improve quickly."

He added: "Some players have clear potential, and I trust them, but the level of Juventus imposes additional pressures on them. I spoke with the club owners, and they asked me if I needed anything, and I explained to them that the challenge is significant from within despite the great image from the outside, and this may weigh heavily on some players."

About his return to the coaching bench after his experience with the Italian national team, Spalletti said: "This is what I have been doing all my life; we need to communicate with the team, and we want to make those who love the club and football happy. We must build a strong relationship with the players, and through friendship and understanding, the team can grow together."
