Courtois: This is how we should deal with the Clasico, and we need our fans
Thibaut Courtois, the goalkeeper of Real Madrid, spoke in an interview with the royal club's channel, on the sidelines of the Clasico on Sunday against Barcelona, in the tenth round of La Liga.
The goalkeeper said: "The team is in good shape. We need to regain our energy and rest well to be at our best, but I believe we are approaching the match in excellent condition and treating it as one of the most important matches of the season."
Regarding his advice to his teammate Carreras, who will play his first Clasico in his career, Courtois said: "It’s a very beautiful match. He has to play it naturally, as he knows, and enjoy it, because enjoyment is the most important thing."
The goalkeeper talked about his best memories against Barcelona: "We have achieved many important victories. One of them was just before the COVID pandemic, here at home, and that helped us stay at the top, and after playing at home, we won the league here. There were many beautiful matches that hold lovely memories."
He concluded: "The presence of our fans at the Bernabeu makes a difference. When we press the opponent, we feel as if the crowd is pushing us forward like a huge wave. The stadium turns into a cauldron, and the fans are very close to the pitch, which gives us tremendous energy. Even in tough times, we hear their support and feel it, which helps us all fight."
