Enrique: Hakimi is the best right-back in the world, and this is our goal
Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique appeared at a press conference to talk about tomorrow's match against Brest in the ninth round of the French league.
The coach began his talk: "The competition between Marquinhos and Zabarni? This is one of the most important things, because competition is what makes us develop on an individual and collective level."
He added: "We have to wait for the last training session to know who will be ready for tomorrow. We have regained Marquinhos, Ousmane Dembélé, and Désiré Doué in recent weeks, and this is great news for us. Neves and Fabian Ruiz are in excellent physical condition, but we will wait for the evening training session to determine their readiness."
He continued: "You always analyze based on the result, but it doesn't work that way. We have the same team in the French league and the Champions League, the performance has been similar in both competitions, with the same identity despite the different names due to injuries. We haven't had the same results, but I am confident because I have seen the same team with the same mentality."
He emphasized: "We are not looking for excuses because of the circumstances at the beginning of the season; we have to deal with every situation. I see the same team in the league as in the Champions League."
He continued: "The most important thing is to win matches. Our goal is to win against Brest and Lorient, then Nice at home. We know the difficulty of that, but it is our goal as a team."
Regarding the team: "Having players who can play in more than one position is very positive. Each striker has his own characteristics, but we are looking for consistency: dribbling, defending, scoring goals. We have players like Barkola, Lee, Dembélé, Doué... they can all play as forwards. This flexibility is very important for us."
He added: "Hakimi's situation hasn't changed in the last two years; he is one of the leaders in the dressing room. His teammates chose him as the second captain of the team, which shows his status and level. He is an exceptional player, combining defensive strength and attacking abilities, and he plays most matches with high intensity. I am very happy to have him with us; he deserves to win the award for the best African player, as he is, for me, the best right-back in the world. That is why we are not looking for a replacement for him."
He noted: "Mental preparation is one of the coach's tasks. When everyone is negative, you have to be positive, and when everyone is optimistic, you need to find balance. You always have to swim against the tide; mental strength is the first thing you try to convey to the players, but it doesn't come only from the coach, but from their personality and how they work as a team. You can say a lot, but if the players don't have ambition and desire, nothing will change."
He concluded: "Zaire Emery has been performing excellently since the beginning of the season. It is natural for a player to go through ups and downs, but we are very happy to see him performing at this level and with confidence. The most important thing is to enjoy playing, as this is a fundamental part of our goals."
