Kompany: Satisfied with the Performance, Renewing My Contract Wasn't a Big Deal for Me
Thursday 23-10-2025
Belgian Vincent Kompany, the head coach of Bayern Munich, expressed his happiness with the significant victory his team achieved against Club Brugge with a score of 4-0, in the third round of the group stage of the UEFA Champions League, confirming his satisfaction with the performance of his players, especially the young talents, and noting that renewing his contract with the club was not a big event for him.

Kompany said: "It was a good match at home, and we could have scored more goals. We saw some young players who will help us a lot throughout the season, including Lennart Carl, who delivered an impressive performance."

Regarding comparing himself to young player Lennart Carl when he was the same age, the Belgian coach smiled and explained: "At his age, I was playing in the Champions League and was a key international player, but honestly, what he is doing is not normal at this level. He will get more opportunities, but he will also need rest. The important thing is that he proved himself in such a big match, and I told him he needs to maintain this level when he reaches thirty, because Harry Kane is doing that too."

Kompany also spoke about renewing his contract with Bayern Munich until 2029, indicating that he did not want it to turn into a major media issue: "It feels to me like the renewal happened a month ago, because the preparation for the match was very intense. My only request to the club was that the renewal should not become a big public issue at a time when we are experiencing positive momentum."

Kompany concluded his statements by expressing his gratitude to the club's management, saying: "The club handled the matter excellently, and I am grateful for that. Signing a new contract was not a special thing for me, as I have been in the professional world for over 25 years. We had an important match, and I didn't want anything to distract us. I wanted it to be done exactly this way."
