Officially: Barcelona's Appeal Rejected and Flick's Absence from the Clasico
Spanish newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo' announced that the Disciplinary Committee of the Spanish Football Federation confirmed the suspension of Barcelona's head coach, Hans Flick, for one match after he was sent off in the last match against Girona at the Montjuïc Stadium.
Flick received two yellow cards during the match, the first in the 90th minute for expressing his protest against the decision of referee Jesús Gil Manzano, and the second immediately after the first for a gesture of objection. Since the dismissal was a result of two yellow cards and not a direct red card, a one-match penalty was imposed on Flick.
The Disciplinary Committee rejected the appeal submitted by Barcelona based on Article 27 of the Disciplinary Code, which places great value on the referee's report: "The referee's decisions regarding events related to the game are final and presumed to be correct, except in cases of clear material error."
The committee clarified that the images and videos presented by Barcelona do not alter the validity of the report, and the club can appeal later to the Appeals Committee or the Spanish Sports Court.
The committee did not address Flick's protest after Araújo's goal or his presence at the exit of the locker rooms, which is against the rules, as anyone sent off must go directly to the locker rooms without watching the match from anywhere in the stadium. Violators are penalized with a suspension ranging from one to three matches and a financial fine, and this point was not addressed as it was not mentioned in the referee's report.
Hans Flick is scheduled to return to the bench in the next match against Elche on November 2.
