The Saudi Al-Shabab team suffered a surprising defeat against their Yemeni counterpart Tadamon Hadramout with a score of 2-0, in the match that took place on Tuesday evening at the Saud bin Abdul Rahman Stadium of Al-Wakrah in Qatar, as part of the second round of the Gulf Champions League for clubs.
The Yemeni team opened the scoring early through their player Mamdouh bin Ajaj in the eighth minute, before Gabonese player Paul Ilonzi added the second goal in the twenty-second minute, amid a decline in Al-Shabab's performance during the first half.
The Saudi team tried to reduce the deficit, but Yannick Carrasco missed a chance to get back into the match by wasting a penalty in the twenty-ninth minute, leaving the score unchanged until the final whistle.
Al-Shabab had drawn in their first match against Oman’s Al-Nahda with a score of 1-1, while Tadamon Hadramout lost their opening match with a clean sheet of 5-0 against Qatari Al-Rayyan, achieving their first victory in the tournament against Al-Shabab.
With this result, Tadamon Hadramout's points increased to three, placing them in second place behind Qatari Al-Rayyan, who lead on goal difference, while Al-Shabab dropped to fourth place without any wins so far.
The matches of the second round will continue tomorrow, Wednesday, where Qatari Al-Rayyan will meet Oman’s Al-Nahda at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, and the third round will resume later with Al-Shabab facing Al-Rayyan and Tadamon Hadramout against Al-Nahda in a new battle for qualification spots.
