Allegri: We can play without a traditional striker, and I directed Leao to take the penalty

The head coach of AC Milan, Massimiliano Allegri, spoke about his team's performance following the hard-fought victory over Fiorentina with a score of 2-1, in the match held at San Siro as part of the Italian league.

Allegri confirmed in his statements that the team delivered a strong match and achieved a deserved victory despite falling behind in the score, praising the players' reaction after Fiorentina's goal, and said: "The team played well, and even after Gosens' goal, we did not give the opponent any real chance on goal; we could have avoided the goal, but we created opportunities, and after the goal, the players showed a great reaction. It was not easy, and I am very satisfied with their performance."

Allegri continued explaining the team's playing style in light of the absences: "Leao was freer to move with Jimenez, but we can get used to playing without a traditional striker. Wofana made several runs from the midfield, which gives us a great advantage because we can fill the penalty area with several players."

Regarding the penalty successfully taken by Rafael Leao, the Italian coach said: "I was the one who told Leao to take the penalty, but Wofana is also a good taker; we just need to reduce the number of missed penalties in the future."

Allegri concluded his remarks by pointing out the absences and their impact on the team, confirming: "Jimenez started the match on the bench, and I had to read the game in light of the many absences. We played well and created two clear chances from set pieces. We should enjoy the victory, but the road is still long to achieve our goals. We hope to recover Loftus-Cheek and Nkunku before Friday's match, but for now, this is the team we will rely on."
