Renard Makes History with Al-Akhdar: First Coach to Lead Them to the World Cup Twice
Wednesday 15-10-2025
The Frenchman Hervé Renard has penned a new chapter in the history of Saudi football, after leading the Saudi national team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup finals, becoming the first coach in the history of Al-Akhdar to achieve this feat twice in a row.

Renard was able to guide Al-Akhdar to the American-Canadian-Mexican World Cup after a journey filled with victories, confirming his status as one of the most prominent coaches who have left a mark on Saudi football in recent years.

This is the second qualification for the national team under the French coach, having previously led them to the Qatar World Cup 2022, where they achieved a historic victory over the Argentina team in one of the tournament's biggest surprises.

Renard had left his position in 2023 to pursue another coaching experience, before returning to lead Al-Akhdar again at the end of 2024, succeeding the Italian Roberto Mancini, to continue his successful journey with the national team.

Renard has extensive experience in global arenas, having previously led the Moroccan national team in the 2018 World Cup, making him one of the few who have participated in three consecutive World Cup editions with different national teams.

As Renard continues his technical mission, the Saudi sports community awaits the French coach to continue writing history and to lead Al-Akhdar to achieve outstanding results in the 2026 World Cup, in line with the aspirations of the fans and the sports leadership.
