Exclusion of Konaté from France's Camp and Call-Up of Pavard as His Replacement
French newspaper 'L'Équipe' revealed that French defender Ibrahima Konaté will not participate in the upcoming match of the French national team against Iceland, after suffering a muscle injury that forced him to leave the national team's camp in Clairefontaine and return to his club Liverpool.
The newspaper explained that Konaté, who remained on the bench during France's 3-0 victory over Azerbaijan, is suffering from a thigh injury that will prevent him from participating in the next match scheduled for Monday, thus joining the list of absentees that includes Kylian Mbappé, who is injured in his right ankle, although recent tests were reassuring.
L'Équipe added that coach Didier Deschamps decided to call up Benjamin Pavard to compensate for Konaté's absence, noting that the Marseille player will join the national team delegation in Reykjavik on match day.
The French national team is heading to Iceland this Saturday evening to play the fourth match in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, knowing that they lead Group D with 9 points from 3 matches.
