Mastantuno: I Was Close to Barcelona, and These Players Amazed Me
Real Madrid and Argentine national team star Franco Mastantuno appeared in a press interview, where he touched on many topics.
The Argentine star said: "The players who amazed me, I put Leo Messi first, then Jude Bellingham second... He is a completely different player. After them, Julian Alvarez, whom I see as one of the best players in the world, I struggled against him in the last match."
The young Argentine star added about wearing the number 10 jersey with the Argentine national team, taking advantage of Messi's absence in the last break: "Wearing the number 10 shirt that was previously worn by Messi and Maradona is the greatest thing that has happened to me in my career."
Regarding Leo Messi, he said: "Messi is like a coach on the field; he has an exceptional way of positioning and moving. Playing alongside him is very easy; I watch him and try to understand his movements to complement them."
He continued: "I was very close to joining Barcelona; everything was arranged, but my father told me that Real Madrid had contacted us, so I chose Real Madrid without hesitation."
On the difference between Xabi Alonso's style at Real Madrid and Lionel Scaloni's at the Argentine national team, Mastantuno clarified: "They are different coaches with different players. At Real Madrid, we rely more on high pressing and speed, while in the national team, we focus on possession and ball control. This is the difference between the two teams, not just in the coach's philosophy but in the playing style itself."
He added: "Both coaches ask me to press immediately after losing the ball to regain it quickly, as this is a key element in both Real Madrid's fast attacking style and Argentina's way of playing, which relies on patience and waiting for the right moment to attack."
About his relationship with teammate Kylian Mbappe, he said: "Mbappe welcomed me very warmly. He is a wonderful player and a very nice person; he treats me with great respect."
He concluded his remarks by saying: "Scoring is very important for me as a forward, as is assisting, but I do not rush it. I try to help the team in different ways, not just by scoring. We have players like Mbappe, who is having an amazing season and scoring a lot, and I contribute in my own way. Scoring goals is a beautiful feeling, but I approach it calmly and with confidence that the goals will come in their time."
