The Cape Verde national team snatched a thrilling draw from their hosts, the Libyan team, with a score of (3-3) in a strong match held at the 11 June Stadium on Wednesday, as part of the ninth round of the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

The Libyan side started explosively, taking the lead early in the first minute after an own goal by Roberto Lopez, the Cape Verde defender. Tielmo Arcanjo responded with an equalizer for the guests in the 29th minute, before Azeddine Al-Marimi restored Libya's lead in the 42nd minute.

In the second half, Mahmoud Al-Shalwi strengthened the score with a third goal for the Mediterranean Knights in the 58th minute, but the Cape Verde national team did not give up and managed to come back by scoring two consecutive goals through Sidney Lopez Cabral and Willy Semedo in the 76th and 82nd minutes, snatching a valuable point away from home.

In the other match within the same group, the Cameroon national team defeated Mauritius with a clean two-goal victory, which officially eliminated the Libyan team from the race for World Cup qualification, leaving the competition for the two top spots and the playoff spot between Cameroon and Cape Verde.
