Cristiano: Our Goal is to Qualify for the World Cup, and I Will Play for a Few More Years

Cristiano Ronaldo, the player of Al Nassr, won the 'Prestige Globe' award in honor of his sports career at the Portuguese Football Federation awards ceremony held on Wednesday evening.

After receiving the award, the star said: "I have some awards at home, but I must say this award is special and beautiful. Well, what can I say? I think everything has already been said. I must confess to you that I was at the table this afternoon studying what I would say in this speech. I was thinking, 'What is the 'Prestige' award?' I wondered if it was an award given for the end of my football career, and I felt a bit nervous and told myself, 'It cannot be that.' So I looked up 'confusion' - if you don't know it, look it up - and got some help. 'This award is a great source of pride for me. I don't see this trophy as the end of my career, but rather a continuation of everything I've done throughout my career.'

He emphasized: "I have played for the national team for 22 years; I believe this is proof of my passion for wearing its jersey, winning titles, and playing for the national team. I always say: If I could, I would choose to play for the national team only; I would not play for any other club, because it is the peak and pinnacle of a football player's life. That is why I am still here. I would like to thank everyone here. I have played for many generations for the national team. I see here many former players who were my teammates. I see Rui, Pepe, Jorge Andrade, Beto, Quaresma... and when I see them, I say: 'I am still here.' I know you may be tired of seeing me here, at these celebrations.

He added: "I believe I still have a lot to offer to the national team and to football. I want to continue playing for a few more years, not many years, honestly. I would like to thank all my teammates for learning from all of them - even from this young generation as well. It is an honor for me to be with you.

He concluded: "Our goal is to win the next two matches and qualify for the World Cup, the World Cup is coming soon. We must only think about the present, focusing on the future. It will be a dream. But step by step. Congratulations to all the winners, and to women's sports that have contributed so much, and to the president for the ceremony, and to everyone here. And I think that is enough."
