Allegri: This is what Leão needs, and my return to Turin was emotional
Monday 06-10-2025
Massimiliano Allegri, Milan's coach, expressed his disappointment after his team's goalless draw (0-0) against Juventus at the Allianz Stadium, in the sixth round of the Italian league, considering that wasted opportunities were the reason for losing three important points.

The match witnessed Allegri's return to Turin for the first time since leaving Juventus in 2024, and his team was close to winning, but the final touch let them down, most notably the American Christian Pulisic's missed penalty in the second half.

Allegri said: "I didn't even see how Pulisic took the penalty... penalties are sometimes missed. The first half was balanced; they closed the spaces well, and we moved the ball slowly."

The coach added: "In the second half, we improved physically and created chances, but when the match was in our hands, we needed to be more aggressive. The positive thing is that we didn't concede goals, but at certain moments, we need to kill the game."

Regarding Rafael Leão's missed chances, he explained: "He was absent for 45 days and is still looking for his rhythm. Last week he participated out of necessity and performed well. He worked hard this week, and we need his return quickly. He and Nkunku are players capable of deciding matches; he played as a center forward at Lille, so this is not new to him. His movement in Modrić's pass was perfect, but a player like him with two opportunities like that should score. He has great talent, but he needs to learn how to close out matches – that's what makes him a decisive player."

About his emotional return to Turin after years with Juventus, he said: "It was an emotional moment. I saw many people I worked with who supported me for eight years. I am grateful to them, but now I am with Milan, and we have a lot of work to do. We will take this point, but when it's time to bite, we must bite."

He concluded his remarks praising Santiago Giménez's performance: "He had a good match and moved excellently in the penalty moment. He works hard for the team, and that's important. I thought Pulisic's entry would make a difference, and despite missing the penalty, he had an exceptional game."
