Laporta Considers Withdrawal from Super League

Journalist Abdullah Polma reported that Barcelona's president, Joan Laporta, may consider withdrawing the club from the European Super League project in the coming weeks and working towards normalizing relations with UEFA completely.

This potential step comes amid a noticeable improvement in Barcelona's relationship with UEFA recently, in addition to the fact that the change in the Champions League format has contributed to increased financial revenues, making the idea of continuing with the Super League project less attractive to the club's management.

The relationship between Barcelona and UEFA has seen significant improvement lately, after being tense for years. The boos from Barcelona fans during the Champions League anthem have become less intense than before, following UEFA's decision to reduce the fine imposed on the club for displaying Catalan independence flags in the Berlin final from €60 million to €15 million, with the condition of adhering to Financial Fair Play regulations over the next two years.

UEFA has also shown support for Barcelona in some exceptional requests, including allowing them to play their first home match in the second round of the Champions League, as well as the possibility of returning to Camp Nou when it is ready, despite regulations typically not allowing for this.

The Catalan club has also contributed to the dialogue on developing the tournament system, proposing to give home advantage until the semifinals to the first and second-placed teams, a proposal that received preliminary approval during a meeting between club president Joan Laporta and UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin.

Twelve European clubs announced over three years ago the creation of what is called the Super League, before all clubs withdrew from the competition except for Real Madrid, Juventus, and Barcelona.
