Barcelona is monitoring Benfica talent
Thursday 02-10-2025
The Spanish newspaper 'Sport' revealed that Barcelona's sporting director, Deco, held an informal meeting with Portuguese agents Carlos Gonçalves and Antonio Casanova.

During the meeting, the name of young defender Gonçalo Oliveira, a 19-year-old Benfica player, was mentioned. He is considered one of the rising talents in Portugal, playing as a left center-back, and is part of the reserve team while also participating in the first team environment, where he is receiving notable attention within the Portuguese club.

However, the newspaper clarified that the meeting with the player's agents was not decisive or of a negotiating nature regarding any potential deal, especially since Barcelona does not consider the center-back position an urgent priority at this time.

The Catalan club's management prefers to study any future moves in depth by the scouting department and Deco himself.

Therefore, there are currently no open negotiations, but Barcelona continues its usual policy of closely monitoring young talents in anticipation of the future, with Oliveira being one of the most promising names in Portuguese football.
