Mariska Reveals Details of Palmer's Injury and Chelsea's Absences Before Facing Brighton
Friday 26-09-2025
Enzo Mariska, the head coach of Chelsea, talked about the latest updates on Cole Palmer's injury and several players in the team during the press conference preceding the match against Brighton in the Premier League.

Mariska said: "We decided to protect Palmer a bit so that his injury does not worsen, so we made the decision to rest him for two or three weeks, perhaps until the international break, hoping that during this period he can recover 100% and return in full fitness after the break."

He added: "I don't think he needs surgery; it's just about managing the pain he feels in the thigh area. With the pressure of matches, that can happen, and that's why we want to handle it carefully and give him enough rest to return in full readiness."

Regarding other injuries in the team, the Italian coach clarified: "Defender Toussaint is suffering from a slight tear in his calf muscle and will be out until the international break. Wesley Fofana also suffered a concussion during the team's last match against Lincoln, and therefore he will be absent as well."

He continued: "Romeo Lavia and Benoit Badiashile are in better condition now, and we will see if they can join us tomorrow, and if not, they will be ready for the next match."

On the return of goalkeeper Robert Sanchez after serving his suspension, Mariska said: "Robert has been amazing with us for a long time, whether at the end of last season or the beginning of this season. Yes, he made a mistake against Manchester United, and he admitted it, but that’s normal; every player is prone to mistakes whether they are a defender, forward, or goalkeeper."

He concluded: "We are happy with Robert; we have no problem with him. Yes, he made some mistakes that led to goals, but on the other hand, he saved us from many goals thanks to his saves. This is part of football."
