Kompany: We Will Not Underestimate Hoffenheim, and This is Stanisic's Injury Nature
Friday 19-09-2025
Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany appeared at a press conference to discuss tomorrow's match against Hoffenheim in the fourth round of the Bundesliga.

The coach began his talk about Stanisic's injury and who will play at left-back: "We will see exactly how we plan tomorrow. There aren't many options left after Stani's injury. With Raphael Guerreiro, we will see today how he feels – he hasn't trained this week. Stanisic's injury isn't too serious; it might just be a short-term issue. We will manage it with the players we have."

Regarding the duration of Stanisic's absence: "He will miss a few matches, but we hope he will be ready again after the international break."

On Laimer's level: "He has been consistent and flexible for us for a long time. He has played both left and right, and I think he has become better defensively; he is used to this position now. He solves a lot of problems with his intensity, offensively as well – but it's not just about Koni, it's the whole team that is playing well right now."

About the return of Alphonso Davies, who has been out for a long time due to a torn ACL: "He is suffering from a long-term injury, so it takes time. I am not putting any pressure on him. We will give him time – just like we are doing with Hiroki Ito and Jamal Musiala."

He added: "Regarding whether Jonas Urbig will get a chance or not, it's not something I want to discuss in a press conference. I want to keep the team focused as much as possible on Hoffenheim. We have great confidence in Jonas Urbig and believe in his future – but I want to win the match against Hoffenheim first and focus on that."

He continued about Sasha Bouj: "I made this clear when it came to the size of the team: it's important for me to have immense confidence in every player I have. There are no exceptions. Sasha is part of that; his performance against Chelsea was very good, but the focus is on the team, on the group, not on individual players."

About tomorrow's match: "Hoffenheim has won all their preparation matches, won the cup match, and has performed well so far. They will also say: 'Now is the time' – we are looking forward to this match, we are in good shape – so we will not treat Hoffenheim any differently than we did with Chelsea. We have to see who is ready, who feels good – but underestimating is not in our line; that is the biggest danger. Our players are very experienced and have been in this situation many times before, so I am confident we will not underestimate them."

He concluded about Manuel Neuer: "I see what Manu brings to training and in matches – his performances are fantastic. For a long time, I only knew Manu as a competitor, but since we have worked together, his level has improved almost every week. He has already achieved everything in his career. So, it's important for me that he enjoys the matches. There are stages in your career where you don't feel any pressure. At the beginning, Lenart Karl, he has no pressure; he is a young player. And when you achieve everything like Manu, things go back to normal – no one can take the titles away from you anymore, you don't have to prove anything to anyone. Even if his mentality is definitely different, he will see things differently; he still wants to prove everything to everyone. It's a mix of focus and complete ease. I felt that at the end of my career too. As a young player, you are in full launch mode; as you grow older, you go with the flow of the game more and make decisions at the right moments. He is at this stage of his career now.
