Bayern Munich has announced that their defender Josip Stanisic has been injured during the team's match against Chelsea in the first round of the group stage of the UEFA Champions League, which ended with the Bavarian team's victory 3-1.

The club clarified that medical examinations confirmed the player has a partial tear in the internal ligament of his right knee, which will keep him off the field for a period to be determined later according to the treatment and rehabilitation program.

The absence of the Croatian player is a blow to the coaching staff led by Vincent Kompany, as he relies on Stanisic's defensive abilities both in the starting lineup and as a substitute option to strengthen the back line.
