Mbappe: I Don’t Set Limits for Myself, and This is What Alonso Expects from Us

Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe appeared in press statements after the victory over Marseille 2-1 in the first round of the Champions League group stage, at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

Mbappe, who scored two goals and reached 50 goals in a Real Madrid shirt, said: "It is a pleasure to be here and to experience another night of the Champions League. It was a somewhat complicated night because we played with ten players for a while, but we showed the spirit of the Champions League at the Bernabeu. That's how things always are at the Bernabeu, no matter what happens, it happens. We always hope to win. Today we won, and we are very happy."

He continued in his speech: "I feel very good. I don’t think much about being the captain, but rather about being myself. I want to help my teammates and the team. These things come naturally; no one asks for it. I feel good in the team. There are many players younger than me, and I hope I can help them to bring out the best in themselves. I want us to come together to achieve titles."

Regarding Xabi Alonso: "He wants us to regain the ball quickly. We have to understand what we are doing, and when we understand that, we have the determination to achieve it because we want to win. We communicate well to know what we need to do, and we do it for this badge; I always do what the coach wants. He asked me today to press to help because we have a strong defense to regain a lot of balls. We will get used to that more; it will be easier, and it will help the team win titles."

About the handball in the penalty: "The handball issue is very complicated. Sometimes it is said that they are all counted, then not. It is difficult to find logic. We follow the rule, and if it’s a penalty, it is. For me, it is, but I understand why some say it isn’t; everyone is confused about this rule. It’s either a handball or it isn’t. But if a penalty is given, I will take it and score it, that’s all."

He concluded: "How many goals do you want to score? As many as possible, I don’t set limits for myself. I just want to help the team: if it’s by scoring, then scoring; if it’s by pressing, then pressing; or if it’s by assisting, then assisting. I want to do everything the team needs."
