Valverde: We need to improve this aspect, and I don't want to comment on Carvajal's red card

Real Madrid achieved an important victory over Olympique Marseille with a score of (2-1) in the opening of their Champions League campaign, and after the match, the team's midfielder Federico Valverde expressed his impressions about the game.

Valverde said: "We had a great match. We faced the same situation recently; a red card sometimes turns things upside down (referring to Carvajal's red card). We didn't play the second half as we wanted, while the first half was much better. The important thing is that we started the tournament with a win."

He added: "The opponent pressed us and prevented us from playing at the same pace for 90 minutes. But part of the problem lies with us, as we feel overly confident when things go well and think the match is settled, while the opposite is true. We need to improve this aspect and change our mentality. We must maintain our focus for longer than we showed today so that we can enjoy the matches more and have a calmer experience."

Regarding Carvajal's red card: "I don't want to comment right now because we are still under the influence of the match, and we might say things that shouldn't be said. We need to watch the footage calmly and then assess the situation. I don't like to talk about referees; my focus is always on my team. We need to keep improving, and the goals we conceded came from high-quality plays by the opponent."

On Mbappé reaching 50 goals with Real Madrid: "It's great that Mbappé continues to score and feels comfortable. Our role as midfielders is to provide him with more balls and give him additional options. We need to focus on improving our work in midfield so that we can give him more opportunities than he is currently getting."
