National Agreement Between Al-Zawraa and Al-Shorta to Host Foreign Matches
The management of Al-Zawraa Club announced yesterday, Tuesday, that they have reached an official agreement with Al-Shorta Club to designate Al-Zawraa Stadium as the official venue for Al-Shorta during their participation in the AFC Champions League for the 2025-2026 season.
Al-Zawraa Club President, Haidar Shanshul, stated in a press interview that "the agreement came from a pure national motive, as the participation of Iraqi clubs in continental championships serves the interests of Iraqi football in general, not just the interests of a specific club."
Shanshul indicated that "Al-Zawraa Stadium will be fully ready to host Al-Shorta's matches in the elite AFC Champions League, in addition to hosting Al-Zawraa's matches in the AFC Champions League 2," emphasizing that all administrative and technical arrangements have been completed to ensure the success of the hosting.
Al-Shorta Club faces a significant challenge in the new edition of the elite AFC Champions League, as the draw placed them in a strong group that includes a selection of clubs from West Asia, notably the three Saudi clubs Al-Ahli, Al-Hilal, and Al-Ittihad, along with the UAE's Shabab Al-Ahli, Sharjah, and Al-Wahda, and Qatar's Al-Sadd, Al-Gharafa, and Al-Duhail, in addition to Iran's Tractor and Uzbekistan's Nasaf.
