Officially.. Newcastle announces the signing of Wissa
Newcastle United has officially announced the signing of striker Yoane Wissa from Brentford on the last day of the transfer market for £55 million.
The 28-year-old Congolese international has signed a long-term contract to become Newcastle's sixth signing this summer and will wear the number 9 shirt.
Wissa began his career with Châteauroux in France, then moved to Angers in 2016, before having loan spells with Laval and Ajaccio. In January 2018, he joined Lorient, where he contributed to the team's promotion to Ligue 1 and scored ten goals in the following season, paving the way for his transfer to Brentford in 2021.
During his time at Brentford, Wissa made 149 appearances and scored 49 goals in all competitions, including 19 goals in the Premier League last season, marking his best scoring record.
Wissa said in his first comments: "I am very happy to join one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League. I have dreams and ambitions, and I will do my best to achieve them. I can't wait to start this journey."
For his part, coach Eddie Howe stated: "Yoane is a player we have been monitoring for a long time, and we are happy to have him with us. He has great experience in the Premier League, not only in scoring goals but also in teamwork. His style of play will add speed and strength to us and give us additional attacking options."
