Kompany: We Made Mistakes at Crucial Moments, and This is My Message to Harry Kane
Thursday 28-08-2025
The coach of Bayern Munich, Vincent Kompany, appeared in press statements after the 3-2 victory over Wiesbaden in the first round of the DFB-Pokal.

He said: "It was a real cup match, I felt everything. We had a dangerous chance just 15 seconds in, but the goalkeeper was on his game. I congratulate Wiesbaden, they fought relentlessly and showed what cup matches mean. In the end, I was confident that one of our chances would find the net, but what their goalkeeper did today was exceptional."

Regarding his team conceding two goals, he explained: "We made mistakes at crucial moments, and we must acknowledge that. Leading 2-0 is never enough; you must always look for the third goal because it changes a lot. The opponent regained confidence and scored, but we kept our composure and created many chances."

On the controversial penalty not awarded at the start of the match, the coach confirmed: "I didn’t complain, even though it was a clear penalty in my view. But no excuses, the defender did everything to prevent the goal and was lucky."

Regarding Harry Kane missing one of the penalties after scoring another, Kompany said: "This is rare, but I was calm. I know he will score the next one, and that’s what happened. Harry has the confidence and knows how to bounce back always."

He concluded his remarks about the young goalkeeper Jonas Urbig, who conceded two goals from the first two shots on target, saying: "Sometimes you don’t need to do much. And in those moments, you might need some luck. You have to believe that you can decide the match. Well, today we didn’t succeed in that, but overall he cannot be blamed for the goals, and we need to be fair about that."
