Marquinhos: No One Guarantees Their Place in Paris, and Chevalier is a World-Class Goalkeeper
Brazilian Marquinhos, captain of Paris Saint-Germain, confirmed his full support for the new goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, despite his mistake leading to Tottenham's second goal during the 2025 UEFA Super Cup final, which ended with the Parisian club winning on penalties after a 2-2 draw in regular time.
Marquinhos stated: "We placed our full trust in Lucas Chevalier during the penalties, he has just arrived at the club and is under a lot of pressure, but he showed strong character, and I believe he is accustomed to such moments."
He added: "Chevalier is a world-class goalkeeper, and we welcome him to the team, he has already won a title with us after a very good performance."
Regarding his future with Paris Saint-Germain, Marquinhos remarked: "I think I will stay, I am very happy here, but in Paris, no one has a guaranteed place, you must always be at the highest level and give your all, and that is what I intend to do to satisfy the coach."
On facing Tottenham, the Brazilian captain said: "I am proud of the victory today, we did not have enough time to prepare, but football is not just physical, it is mental as well. Tottenham took the lead with two goals and then fell back, which was dangerous; you cannot let Paris attack in that way. The coach made the substitutions we needed at the right time."
