Ballon d'Or.. Complete Absence of Algerians from the Nominees List
The French magazine France Football announced today on its official website the extended list of players nominated for the 2025 Ballon d'Or, which includes the most prominent stars of world football after the end of an exceptional season.
The list saw a complete absence of Algerian players, in an unpleasant surprise for Algerian fans, as no player from the "Greens" was included in the list, which has often featured prominent names in past years, such as Riyad Mahrez during his time with Manchester City and Leicester City, and Yacine Brahimi when he shone with Porto.
In contrast, 3 African players made their presence known in this year's list, namely Mohamed Salah, Achraf Hakimi, and Giroud.
This absence reflects the decline of Algerian representation on the European stage this season, despite some good individual performances from several players in various leagues, but it also highlights the level of strong competition for the most prestigious award in the world.
