Algerian Federation Renews Trust in Petkovic Until 2028
The Algerian Football Federation announced today, Sunday, the extension of coach Vladimir Petkovic's contract until July 2028, in a move that reflects confidence in the technical project led by the Swiss coach with the "Desert Foxes."
The federation clarified in an official statement that the decision to extend was based on the positive results achieved by the Algerian national team since Petkovic took over. It emphasized that he has left a remarkable record over 28 matches, achieving 21 victories, 4 draws, and 3 losses, with 67 goals scored and 22 goals conceded.
The statement added that the period during which Petkovic led the team also witnessed significant success in major goals, as the "Greens" secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup, ending the team's absence from the 2018 and 2022 editions. Additionally, they reached the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, after early exits in the first round of the 2021 and 2023 editions.
The Algerian Football Federation also noted the significant improvement in the national team's international ranking, as it was ranked 43rd globally and 7th in Africa at the start of the technical project, before advancing to 28th globally and 4th on the continent.
The "FAF" considered that this stability at the technical staff level represents an important step to enhance continuity and consolidate the ongoing work, serving the team's ambitions in upcoming competitions.
The statement also confirmed that the assistant technical staff, consisting of Davide Morandi (assistant coach), Guido Nanni (goalkeeping coach), and Paolo Rongoni (fitness coach), will continue their duties alongside Petković in the upcoming phase.
