Peter Georges Faces Legal Crisis with Duhok Club
Tuesday 05-08-2025
The atmosphere within the walls of Duhok Club seems to be heading towards a new escalation, following the worsening dispute between the club's management and its international player, Peter Korkis, who is now threatened with a potential penalty from FIFA due to his refusal to complete the last season with the team, despite his contract being valid until the summer of 2026.

Korkis, who is 24 years old, is considered one of the most prominent rising Iraqi talents in recent years, and he played a crucial role in leading Duhok to win the Gulf Champions Cup for the first time in the club's history. However, tensions between the two parties began to surface in the final stages of the season when the player suddenly missed crucial matches in “solidarity” with former coach Masoud Miral, who resigned from his position after being penalized by the Iraqi Federation.

Exclusive sources confirmed to winwin that the player has refused to respond to the official communications sent by the management to resolve his future, which the club considered a breach of his contractual obligations, especially since the absence was not for documented medical reasons. The management regarded this absence as “mutiny” and began to take gradual legal steps, starting with sending official warnings, which have reached three so far, amid reports of their readiness to issue a fourth warning that could open the door for FIFA intervention.

An informed administrative source stated:

“Peter has been repeatedly informed of the need to respect his contract, especially since we have provided him with multiple facilities, including a promise to grant him a release letter after completing his participation in the Iraq Cup, but he ignored that and preferred to leave without direct clarification, contenting himself with informing us through his agent that he would not return to the team.”

According to international regulations, the player's refusal to return despite repeated official warnings could expose him to suspension or fines if the file is officially submitted to FIFA. The Duhok management is preparing for this step in case Korkis does not join the training sessions that will commence in the coming days, which could complicate his football future both in Iraq and abroad.

On the other hand, leaks indicate that the player wishes to end his career with Duhok and seek a new professional experience, either in the Arabian Gulf or Europe, amid offers that have not yet been officially disclosed. However, this direction clashes with a binding contract that is still in effect, meaning any move by the player must be in agreement with the club or through an official termination; otherwise, the matter may reach the corridors of sports judiciary.

During the 2024-2025 season, Korkis participated in 24 matches out of 36, scoring 7 goals and assisting 7 others, making him one of the influential players in Duhok's lineup. He is also one of the names relied upon by the Iraqi national team in the attack, which increases the sensitivity of the situation, especially with the player's desire to maintain his readiness for upcoming international commitments.
