The English club Arsenal officially announced on its website that it has signed the Swedish international striker Viktor Gyökeres on a long-term contract, coming from the Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon.

Gyökeres is 27 years old and has excelled notably with the Portuguese team, scoring 97 goals in 102 matches, leading Sporting to win the Portuguese league title and a domestic cup, as well as being the league's top scorer in both seasons.

The Swedish striker also has an impressive international record, having scored 12 goals in his last 17 matches with his national team.

The Gunners' sporting director, Andrea Berta, expressed his happiness with the completion of the deal, praising the player's technical abilities and fighting mentality, while coach Mikel Arteta confirmed that Gyökeres represents a strong addition with his vast experience and effectiveness in front of goal.

Viktor Gyökeres is set to wear the number 14 shirt and will immediately join the team on its preparatory tour for the new season in Asia.

Although Arsenal did not mention the duration of the contract or the value of the deal, some media reports indicated that Gyökeres signed with the Gunners for 5 years in a deal worth around 75 million euros, according to what was reported by 'Transfermarkt'.
