FIFA Council Approves Use of Cameras Worn by Referees
The International Football Association Board (IFAB), the body responsible for formulating and developing the laws of the game, has officially announced the approval of allowing referees to wear cameras mounted on their bodies for use in television broadcasting.
According to the statement, every league or competition can now submit an official request to IFAB and FIFA to trial this system, which made its debut at the FIFA Club World Cup this summer.
Several media reports have stated that FIFA considered the trials conducted at the Club World Cup to be 'successful', and thus allowed the implementation of this technology in European and global leagues and tournaments.
This decision represents a new step towards keeping pace with technological advancements in football, alongside enhancing the officiating experience and reviewing contentious cases from new angles.
