Kroos: Retiring at the Top is the Best Decision
German midfielder Toni Kroos, former player of Spanish club Real Madrid, appeared to discuss his decision to retire from playing at the end of last season.
Kroos said in his remarks: "The best thing is to leave at the top; you depart with a wonderful feeling because you made the decision yourself."
He added: "Before someone sat me on the bench because I was no longer as efficient or as important to the team as I once was until the end, I preferred to be the one who leaves."
He continued: "I spent several months thinking about this matter; I mean, I didn't wake up one morning and suddenly tell myself that I should retire, no, I thought about it a lot."
He continued: "I had considered retiring the year before, but in the end, I decided to renew my contract for another year with Real Madrid, which was very pressing, but that did not change my idea, which has always been to retire this way."
He concluded: "Fortunately, I succeeded in that; I think it's hard to perform better than I did in my last season with Real Madrid. I left after winning the Spanish League and the Champions League."
