Officially: Atletico Madrid Announces Signing of Thiago Almada
The Spanish club Atletico Madrid announced today, Thursday, its official signing of Argentine star Thiago Almada, coming from Brazilian Botafogo, in a deal completed during the current summer transfer window.
The club confirmed via its official website that it reached an agreement with Botafogo to acquire the player on a contract that extends for five years, until June 2030, after he successfully passed the medical examination and signed the contracts in the presence of CEO Miguel Ángel Gil.
Almada, who is 24 years old, joins the ranks of the Rojiblancos to embark on a new challenge under the leadership of his compatriot Diego Simeone in the upcoming 2025/2026 season, enhancing the team's options in midfield and on the wing, thanks to his ability to play with both feet and his diverse skills.
Last season, Almada played with French Lyon on loan from Botafogo, where he appeared in 20 matches and contributed to 7 goals, scoring 2 and assisting 5 others, before finishing his loan at the end of June.
He previously won the 2022 World Cup title with the Argentina national team after a notable career that began with Velez Sarsfield and then Atlanta United in the American league.
